Laughing Letters
Prep: None | Activity Time: 10–15 Minutes
Have fun making up and illustrating funny sentences using words that begin with the same letter!Â
- Unlined paperÂ
- Markers or crayonsÂ
- ±Ê±ð²Ô³¦¾±±ôÌý
Step 1:Â Draw a picture of something simple. Tell your child what you drew. For example, you might draw a hand.Â
Step 2: Ask your child to identify the sound and write the letter that the picture begins with. Â
Step 3:Â Help your child make up a funny sentence that uses the sound of the letter and the picture that you drew. For example you might say:
“Happy Hannah holds hearts in her hands.â€Â
Step 4: Write the sentence at the bottom of the paper. Ask your child to circle all of the letters that make the same sound as the picture. Â
Make it easier by increasing the amount of support and modeling you give to your child. Write the letter “Hhâ€â€¯at the top of the paper and ask your child to say the sound that “Hhâ€â€¯makes. After you write the funny sentence, you might say:Â
“I see the letter ‘Hh.’ It makes the /h/ sound. Look at these words on the paper and circle the letter ‘Hh’ each time you see it.â€Â
Add some challenge by asking your child to draw another picture of something that begins with the same sound as the picture you drew. For example, your child might draw a picture of a basketball hoop to go alongside the picture of the hand you drew. Â
